New Feature: Live Statistics

4:13 Design has a never-ending goal to make your choice to create a website the best business decision you have ever made. For this reason, we periodically release new functionality on our Client Login Portal and new features to our Website Maintenance Packages in an effort to keep you as productive as possible.

Clients of 4:13 Design with Enhanced or Complete Maintenance packages have become accustomed to the multi-page statistical reports that give great detail about the visitors to their website. While this document is highly beneficial, it is only released on a quarterly basis. How much better would it be to see similar information about your website’s visitors anytime you want?

We have recently implemented a Live Statistics viewer as part of the Client Login Portal. You can now check website statistics from the last 30 days (including Pageviews, Visits, New Visitors, Time on Site, and Pageviews by Webpage Title) from the comfort of your home or office. It is my hope that this will allow you to make more informed decisions about changes to website content and the impact that variations in special offers have on visitors to your website.

Clients who are already enrolled in an Enhanced or Complete Maintenance package have immediate access to the Live Statistics viewer through the Client Login Portal. Those with other maintenance packages can upgrade and begin viewing statistics as soon as the next day.

Beware of Aggressive SEO Tactics

I recently was forwarded the following email from a client of mine.

Hello, my name is __________ and I am a Internet marketing professional. I had done a Google search under the keyword __________ and had run across your website __________. I see that you are not listed on the first page of Google for your particular search.

I am not sure if you’re aware of why you’re ranked this low but more importantly how easily correctable this is.

There’s no reason that you can’t have top three rankings for the keyword __________ based on your website structure and content. You have a very nice site.

What you need is high quality one-way anchor text links. I can help you with this…..

Not only can I get you ranked for the keyword __________ but I am talking about all of your keywords on top of Google. Adding new high quality PR anchor-text links from the highest quality websites will produce the results and business you want for __________.

Beware of these kinds of emails. This is most likely a scam sent out by an search engine optimization (SEO) company that specializes in “aggressive SEO,” as it is called. This practice is completely unethical and is explicitly banned by Google and many leading search engines (see this Google Webmaster Support Article for more information). While it’s true that links to and from other website help with search engine placement, these links should be meaningful. It is against Google’s terms of use to “buy” these links and also to link to websites for the sole purpose of gaining higher rankings. In fact, when (it’s not really a matter of if) Google finds out about the scheme, they will permanently remove your website from their search engine.

After all, what does it matter that you have 10,000 visits per month if none of these visitors intended to visit your website in the first place?
